Officers arrest barricaded man

Post Date:11/19/2022

On November 19, at 6:56 a.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to 6900 block of Clearwater Street for a welfare check.

Officers attempted to speak to the male half who had locked himself inside his bedroom with his 2-year-old child. He refused to communicate or leave the bedroom.

It was believed that he was armed with a handgun. Based on this information, the Carlsbad Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team and Crisis Negotiations Team responded and established communication with him. After approximately four hours, he peacefully surrendered. The child was recovered unharmed, and the male was taken into custody and booked into the Vista Detention Facility for False Imprisonment from a prior incident, Criminal Threats, having an Unregistered Firearm and Delaying an Officer. A handgun was recovered in the residence, but not used during the incident.

The Carlsbad Police Department would like to thank the Oceanside Police Department for providing assistance.
