Serious injury traffic collision, 6100 Aviara Parkway

On March 24, 2023, at 1:51 p.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to the 6100 block of Aviara Parkway regarding a vehicle that had struck a bicyclist and fled the scene.

Upon arrival, officers found a 77-year-old male with serious injuries and a bicycle in the roadway. The Carlsbad Fire Department provided medical care, and the male was transported to a trauma hospital. 

The driver of the vehicle, Lawrence Perez, 34, from Carlsbad, was located in the 1300 block of Laurel Tree Lane. Perez displayed objective symptoms of alcohol intoxication and was arrested for driving under the Influence and hit and run, causing injury. Perez will be booked at the Vista Detention Facility.

Initial evidence and witness statements indicate Perez was at fault after running into the bicyclist from behind, ejecting the rider.
