District 1 City Council vacancy update

The City Council decided to proceed with an appointment process to fill the remainder of the term for the District 1 City Council vacancy. An election was estimated to cost between $450,000 and $650,000 and could not take place until next April. The City Council will finalize the appointment process

Commission selects new district map

The City of Carlsbad’s Independent Redistricting Commission has selected a new City Council district map, which will determine the neighborhoods grouped together for the purpose of electing a City Council member starting this November.

The first public meetings for the City Council redistricting process have been scheduled, starting later this month. These informational webinars will provide an overview of redistricting, the steps in the process, how to participate and the basics of map-making. All meetings will be from 6 to 7 p.m

Redistricting Commission members to be chosen 7/13

The City of Carlsbad will hold a random drawing to select members of an Independent Redistricting Commission that will choose the boundaries of City Council Districts based on the latest Census data.
