Grow Your Garden: Ask a Master Gardener

Dana Withall presents: Ask a Master Gardener.

Presenter Bio: A Carlsbad resident since 1986, Dana has been gardening at the Harold E. Smerdu garden for five years. In 2023, she proudly joined the most recent graduating San Diego Master Gardener class of 2023. Master Gardeners are trained/certified by the University of California, Cooperative Extension (UCCE). The training course, a series of approximately 18 classes, is taught by agricultural experts and provides a basic introduction to horticulture and pest management. Students who successfully complete the training course and pass a final exam are certified as UCCE Master Gardeners. In exchange for their training, they agree to 50 hours of volunteer service within one year, then 25 hours of volunteer service and 12 hours of continuing education annually to remain active.
