As we approach the first day of fall on Saturday, I am sharing three things you can do to prepare for Santa Ana winds and the threat of wildfires. The change in seasons also provides new opportunities to connect with your community and explore nature right here in Carlsbad.
The beginning of fall is a great time to get prepared for wildfire season. Carlsbad is known for abundant natural open space, and when nature is your neighbor, it's essential to take precautions against wildfire. Here are some tips that you can do now to help protect your home.
September is National Preparedness Month and this year we're focusing on older adults needs to prepare for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any moment.
The City of Carlsbad Police Department, in collaboration with the California Highway Patrol, announced it will hold a DUI Checkpoint on Friday, September 15, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. the next morning at Carlsbad Boulevard and Beech Avenue in Carlsbad.
Work continues this week on major east-west streets, sealing cracks, rolling out a fresh smooth surface and changing the lane striping to encourage slower speeds. Details on when and where this work is happening plus these updates this week:
Starting Sept. 13, and continuing through next week, sections of Tamarack Avenue between El Camino Real and Highland Drive will be temporarily reduced to one-way traffic.

On Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, at approximately 12:44 a.m., Carlsbad Police contacted a white truck parked in a dirt lot near the intersection of Carlsbad Boulevard and Palomar Airport Road. One adult and four teenagers were inside the truck. There were alcoholic beverages inside the truck.

After Labor Day, the City of Carlsbad is starting construction along the southern part of Avenida Encinas. Work will begin at the Carlsbad Boulevard intersection and move north, ending at the Poinsettia coaster station.
After Labor Day, the City of Carlsbad will begin construction on pedestrian improvements along Carlsbad Boulevard at Cherry and Sycamore avenues. Following the completion of these two crosswalks, crews will move on to Maple, Oak, and Hemlock avenues.
