What is GIS?

A Geographic Information System or GIS is an information technology platform used to capture, manage, analyze and visualize spatial data like fire hydrants, tax parcels, utility lines or zoning. GIS integrates with numerous other citywide applications to support permitting, asset management and work-order management. GIS provides unique capabilities to see patterns and develop insights about data allowing city leadership and staff to make better, data-driven decisions.
