Interfaith Community Service's Carlsbad Service Center hosts the Carlsbad Hiring Center, a program funded by the City of Carlsbad. The center was created in 1991 to address an influx of day laborers to the area and coordinate their employment searches at a single location. Interfaith verifies eligibility for employment in the United States for laborers and employers. 

At the Hiring Center, laborers can register and sign up for daily job opportunities and receive staff assistance in employment planning & goal setting. Residents and employers can hire vetted employees for day labor, temporary, part-time and full-time job positions.

The center also offers services for workers including:

• Career assessments and employability tests
• Resume and online application preparation
• Interview preparation and self-esteem mentoring
• Job search assistance
• Advocacy to resolve legal issues affecting employability
• Filing for unemployment/CalJOBS
• Researching and/or applying for school and training opportunities, financial aid, scholarships and grants
• Workshops on typing and computer skills

HOW IT WORKS

The center has skilled and non-skilled laborers available, with bilingual staff to help connect residents and employers with the most qualified workers.

Job requirements and rate of pay are negotiated between the hiring center staff, the employer and the worker. The expected rate of pay is at least California minimum wage.

Workers can be hired for jobs including:

• Carpentry – flooring, framing and furniture
• Landscaping – gardening and bush clearance, piling, planting, trimming and sprinklers
• Plumbing – piping and digging
• Painting – exterior and interior
• Moving – loading and unloading
• Masonry – demolition, drywall, plastering, roofing, tile, cement
• Janitorial – clean ups
• Car care – washing, waxing, polish and interior cleaning
• General labor
• Handyman and/or novice construction
• House cleaning and/or property maintenance
• Holiday and/or event prep – set-up and break-down, holiday light hanging and/or removal
