Age-Friendly Carlsbad is a project through the American Association of Retired Persons’ Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. With support from the San Diego Foundation Age-Friendly Communities Program, the city created the first Age-Friendly Action Plan in North San Diego County. The action plan was developed through community participation and feedback creating goals for the implementation of policies and programs that enhance the quality of life in the community for people of all ages and abilities.

Age-Friendly Carlsbad Action Plan

Community input gathered from a baseline survey, Social Pinpoint engagement, community conversations and the Age-Friendly workshops have informed the recommendations and objectives in the Age-Friendly Carlsbad Action Plan. The plan was approved for adoption by the Carlsbad City Council on Dec. 7, 2021.

By 2035, the United States will — for the first time ever — be a country comprised of more older adults than of children. The U.S. Census Bureau projects there will be 78 million people age 65 and over compared to 76.4 million under the age of 18. We want Carlsbad to be ready.
