The HMP Preserve System consists of large blocks of native habitat connected by wildlife movement corridors. At build-out, the preserve system will include almost 6,500 acres of permanently protected open space. The preserve system is made up of smaller individual preserves that are managed mostly by the City of Carlsbad, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Center for Natural Lands Management, and a variety of Home Owner’s Associations. Other properties are managed by the University of California Natural Reserve System, San Diego Habitat Conservancy, and Urban Corps Habitat Services. To learn more about the preserve system, visit the interactive preserve system map, which shows the conserved areas, native habitats and sensitive species in the city.
