What is hazardous waste?
Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) is any unwanted household product labeled as flammable, toxic, corrosive or reactive. The most common products include aerosols, antifreeze, asbestos, fertilizers, motor oil, paint supplies, photo chemicals, poisons and solvents.

- Smoke detectors: Ionization smoke detectors can be mailed back to their manufacturer for recycling.

Door to door services for Carlsbad residents
The city provides service through CleanEarth to collect household hazardous waste material from the front door of residents’ homes for a $10 fee. This service is available by appointment only. To make an appointment, call 800-714-1195. Please note: If there is a resident in the home over the age of 65, this service is offered free of charge.
