Police community partnerships and collaboration are the keystone of effective community policing. To this end, the Police Department is excited to offer residents a detailed look inside the Police Department. During this seven-week academy residents will learn:
- About the Police Department – Mission, Vision and Values
- How officers are chosen
- Laws of arrest, etc.
- Crime analysis directed patrol and crime trends
- Calling the police and our dispatch communications center
- All about patrol
- Crisis management – de-escalation, use of force
- Active shooter response
- Homeless outreach program
- Crime suppression efforts
- How we investigate crime - patrol, family services and crimes of violence
- Current drug trends
- Traffic and roadway safety
- Community engagement –how we communicate
- Senior Volunteer Patrol
Details
This seven-week academy will include seven (7), three-hour evening classes. You must be able to attend all the scheduled dates to participate.
You must be a resident and 18 years of age to participate.
Class size is limited to 25. There will be two academies each year.
Spring 2024 session details:
Session 1: Wednesday, March 27, 5:30 - 9 p.m. (First day)
Session 2: Wednesday, April 3, 6 - 9 p.m.
Session 3: Wednesday, April 10, 6 - 9 p.m.
Session 4: Wednesday, April 17, 6 - 9 p.m.
Session 5: Wednesday, April 24, 6 - 9 p.m.
Session 6: Wednesday, May 1, 6 - 9 p.m.
Session 7: Wednesday, May 8, 6 - 9 p.m. (Last day/Graduation)
