Public Safety Open House

National Fire Prevention Week is celebrated in October. To coincide with this national event, the City of Carlsbad Fire and Police Departments host an annual Public Safety Open House at the Carlsbad Safety Training Center.

This open house features a variety of hands-on and educational activities where attendees can explore police and fire vehicles and equipment and interact with our friendly staff. This event continues to be a great success with families, attracting more than 1,000 visitors each year.

Fire station visits

The Carlsbad Fire Department offers two options to visit our fire stations. Please read details below to ensure you select the appropriate option for your group. We are unable to accommodate or host celebrations of any kind, including children's birthday parties, during station visits.

Scheduled tours

This option is a pre-scheduled public education tour geared towards schools, businesses, and organizations for educational purposes. Station tours are scheduled on the first Tuesday and the third Wednesday of every month, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. We can accommodate groups up to 20 people. Due to the educational component of scheduled tours, we ask that groups with children are at least 4 years old.

Please note that we receive a high volume of requests for public education tours and not all requests can be accommodated due to the limited slots available.

Please ensure that your group meets the requirements above before submitting a request for a station tour here.

Walk-in visits

The public is welcome to visit any of the fire stations located within the City of Carlsbad, excluding Station 7. Please note that walk-in visits cannot be scheduled in advance and are at the discretion and availability of the on-duty captain. Walk-in visit hours are between 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Stations 1-6. We are able to accommodate up to eight guests per walk-in visit. Unlike public education tours, there is no age minimum for walk-in visits.

Fire engine visits

The Carlsbad Fire Department welcomes opportunities to partner with schools, businesses, and organizations for public safety and community events. We are unable to accommodate private gatherings and events of any kind, including children's birthday parties.

Please note that we receive a high volume of requests for fire engine visits and not all requests can be accommodated due to the limited slots available.

Please review the guidelines above before submitting a request for a fire engine visit here.
