Construction will occur at four locations throughout the city:

• El Fuerte Street, north of Corintia Street 
• El Fuerte Street, north of Corte de la Vista
• Melrose Drive, north of Poinsettia Lane
• Palomar Airport Road, east of College Boulevard 

Construction impacts for each neighborhood may vary. We will reach out to neighbors before work begins to provide more details. Most areas can expect:

• Access to be maintained to homes, businesses and schools at all times during construction. 
• Temporary lane closures and parking restrictions during construction hours. 
• Noise from construction equipment during construction hours. Crews will work to minimize impacts from noise and dust to the extent possible.
• Please use caution around the work area. Thank you for your patience during construction.

• Construction on this project began in summer 2023 and is anticipated to take about a year to complete.
• Anticipated construction schedule by segment: 
  • El Fuerte, north of Corintia: August 2023 to March 2024
  • El Fuerte, north of Corte De La Vista: January to April 2024
  • Melrose Drive and Poinsettia Lane: April to May 2024
  • Palomar Airport Road, east of College Blvd: May to June 2024
• Work hours will generally be Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., except for federal holidays.

The first two stations under construction are along El Fuerte Street, near Corintia Street and just north of Corte De La Vista. After construction is complete at both locations, impacted sections of the road will be repaved.

Corintia Street 
Fall 2023 to April 2024

• In December 2023, crews completed the installation of a new water pipeline under El Fuerte Street. The city coordinated with La Costa Meadows Elementary School to minimize disruptions during drop-off and pick-up times and completed as much work as possible during the school’s winter break.
• Current construction includes building the underground pressure-reducing station near the El Fuerte and Corintia streets intersection.
  
  

Corte De La Vista
January to April 2024

• Construction is underway to relocate and enhance an existing pressure-reducing station.
• Work includes excavating parts of the road to reroute the pipeline to the new station.

Work at both locations is noisy and can impact traffic. Thank you for your patience and caution when driving, biking, or walking near these construction zones.

Pressure-reducing stations regulate water pressure through underground pipes all the way to your faucet at home. These stations help ensure that when you turn on the water at home it flows at a manageable speed, instead of all at once or nothing at all.

Carlsbad has more than 70 pressure-reducing stations across the city. These stations, along with their connected pipes, are mostly underground and keeping these stations in good condition is crucial for a reliable and efficient drinking water system.
