Library card sign-up month

Post Date:09/08/2022 8:00 AM

Sept. 8 is International Literacy Day, and the City of Carlsbad works hard to advance literacy in our community through engaging programs that provide easy access to reading tools and resources at the Carlsbad City Library.

In fact, September is Library Card Sign-Up Month in Carlsbad, so if you’ve been thinking of getting a new library card, now is the time.  With a Carlsbad City Library card, you can check out a wide variety of books, movies and music and will have access to a wealth of amazing resources that support life-long learning.

To get a library card, please visit any Carlsbad City Library location with your photo ID and address verification. You can also fill out the online application and get a temporary card that will permit you to access most eResources and check out two items.

During September, users who show their library card at the Children's Desk or Information Desk at all three library locations will receive a special item.

International Literacy Day was created by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization in 1967 to remind people about the importance of literacy.  Though much progress has been made since then, it’s estimated that at least 771 million young people and adults worldwide lack basic literacy skills.

For more information about library cards and local literacy programs, visit the Carlsbad City Library website.
