Carlsbad Village Street Faire returns Sunday, May 5 and several streets will be closed in the Village. There will be thousands of drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians heading to and from downtown, so please slow down, be alert and stay safe! The next City Council meeting will take place Tuesday, May 7, starting at 5 p.m. in the City Council Chamber. Topics include: ā¢ An agreement that will enable the Fire Department and other firefighting agencies participating on a specialized urban search and rescue task force to be reimbursed by the state for associated costs ā¢ A contract to replace the audio and video systems at the Schulman Auditorium at Dove Library ā¢ A contract to replace a water pipeline on Valley Street and a sewer pipeline on Foxtail Loop. ā¢ An agreement with an engineering firm to design road improvements on Faraday Avenue in preparation for Veterans Memorial Park, scheduled to open in 2026 ā¢ Ending the local storm-related emergency proclamation to remove debris from the Buena Vista Creek channel and continuing another one to repair a slope between El Camino Real and Trieste Drive. These proclamations must be renewed at each regular City Council meeting until the emergency is declared over. ā¢ A proposed plan to spend federal Community Development Block Grant funding to help people with low incomes find housing ā¢ A report on the cityās vehicle fleet and how itās managed and financed ā¢ Changes to how the city manages its Capital Improvement Program, which is a plan for building and funding future infrastructure projects across the city Agenda and staff reports š https://loom.ly/2v6xtwA

EV charging stations in Carlsbad
Environmental sustainability is one of the major goals in the City Councilās 5-Year Strategic Plan. One of the ways the city promotes sustainability is by installing EV chargers around Carlsbad and requiring certain new development to include EV chargers in their projects.
From time to time, community members ask the city how to find EV chargers in Carlsbad. The city has more than 200. The easiest way to find them is to visit plugshare.com on your computer or use the Plug Share app on your mobile device (you might get a pop-up window on your computer asking you to register for an account. If you donāt want to, just close that window and proceed to the site).
Hereās a map that shows charging station locations (there are less than 200 map pins because the pin just shows the location, and each location can have multiple chargers available). Colors refer to different types of charging.
If youāre new to electric vehicles or considering making the switch, here are some details about charging stations:
- There are different types of charging stations, based on the type of plug your car uses and charging speed.
- Some EVs have plug adapters that allow them to use more than one type of charging station.
- There are also different companies that run charging stations, so if you have an EV, you will likely want to set up accounts through their apps so youāre ready to use whichever one is available when you need it (city-owned chargers use the ChargePoint network).
The City of Carlsbad has directly installed 28 public EV chargers so far, with another 10 planned for the Village in 2024. And, as part of our Climate Action Plan, the city now routinely invests in EV charging infrastructure when we build or do major renovations at city facilities.
