Volunteer tree-planting event

Post Date:04/23/2024 1:55 PM

The City of Carlsbad has been named a Tree City USA for the 20th consecutive year and we’re celebrating this Saturday with a volunteer tree-planting event at The Crossings in Carlsbad golf course.

The Carlsbad City Council issued a proclamation Tuesday, recognizing April 21-27 as Arbor Week in Carlsbad. The Tree City USA designation is made by the national Arbor Day Foundation, reflecting the city’s ongoing commitment to protecting and preserving trees as vital to the community’s well-being.

On Saturday, volunteers will help plant 25 trees, including crape myrtle, Brisbane box, evergreen pear and western redbud – all drought-tolerant species that grow easily in Carlsbad’s climate and look good year round. Those species are also on the City of Carlsbad’s list of approved trees for city parks and medians, part of the city’s Community Forest Management Plan
