The City Council decided to proceed with an appointment process to fill the remainder of the term for the District 1 City Council vacancy. An election was estimated to cost between $450,000 and $650,000 and could not take place until next April. The City Council will finalize the appointment process at its meeting on Tuesday, July 27.

District 1 covers the northwest part of the city, including the downtown village area and the barrio.
