Helo Announcement System

When the San Diego County Sheriff's helicopter (ASTREA) joins us for a search, the Police Department often gets questions about what is being announced on the PA system. To help with this, we have partnered with the SDSO’s Auto Helo System.
 
When you hear the helicopter making announcements
  • You can call 858- 866-HELO to hear a recording of the broadcast. If there is more than one search/broadcast currently, you will need to choose your area.
  • Or text 858-866-HELO and message “hello” to read the broadcast.
This system is not automatic. To hear the broadcast recording you need to call or text when the incident is occurring.
 
The service is free but depending on your phone plan, text message fees could apply.
This is not a crime reporting system. To report crime or suspicious activity -24/7, call 911 for an emergency or crime in progress, or 760-931-2197 for everything else.
 
We would like to thank the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department for their continued air support in the City of Carlsbad. ASTREA has assisted the County of San Diego since 1971 and there are currently 9 helicopters that average 2000 missions each year. ASTREA is an invaluable tool and service.
