Beach cleanup event

  • Date: 11/04/2023 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM

Volunteer for beach clean-up day, Nov. 4

The City of Carlsbad is seeking volunteers for a cleanup event at the north end of the city’s beach on November 4. Beach cleanups help prevent trash and debris left behind by beachgoers from traveling through drains and down rivers to our shorelines, lake and ocean waters and help keep animals like seals or shorebirds from becoming entangled in plastic debris or mistakenly ingesting it.

Carlsbad Beach cleanup

Saturday, November 4

8:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Check in at sign-in station on Ocean Street at Grand Avenue

All volunteers will need to sign a waiver form in order to participate and can help reduce additional waste by bringing along your own work gloves and reusable water bottles. The city will provide trash grabbers, disposable gloves and trash bags.

"The event is aimed at bringing awareness to the pollution problem in our oceans and the shore," says Michael Tully, park planner for the City of Carlsbad. "Despite campaigns and initiatives to reduce, reuse and recycle plastic waste, it is estimated that 8 million pieces of plastic still enter our oceans each day. The cleanup is a great way to not only enjoy our beaches and creeks, but also to do our part to keep them beautiful by removing waste from the environment."

Can’t make the event? Here are other ways to help:

Reduce, reuse and recycle at home, work and school

Choose nontoxic chemicals and dispose of herbicides, pesticides and cleaning products properly

Keep storm drains clean - they drain to waterways and the ocean

Pick up after your pets. Pet waste bacteria gets washed into storms drains and into the ocean

Properly dispose of fishing lines, nets and hooks

Only purchase sustainable seafood
