Fatal traffic collision between a motorcycle rider and bicyclist

CARLSBAD, Calif. – On August 15, at approximately 1 p.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department was notified about a traffic collision on Carlsbad Boulevard near Palomar Airport Road.

Arriving officers located a motorcyclist with a passenger that had collided with a bicyclist. The preliminary investigation has revealed that the motorcyclist was being pursued northbound on Carlsbad Boulevard by a State Parks Officer for excess speed and reckless operation of the motorcycle when the collision occurred.

The 28-year-old male motorcyclist was transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries.

The 22-year-old female passenger of the motorcycle was also transported to a local area hospital with serious injuries.

A male bicyclist died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing. The Carlsbad Police, California State Parks and San Diego County District Attorney's Office are working together on the investigation.

Carlsbad Police Traffic Investigators are requesting anyone who witnessed the collision to call Accident Investigator Adam Bentley at 442-339-5559.
