We are busy maintaining infrastructure, improving traffic flow and enhancing neighborhood quality of life through a variety of projects happening around town. Traffic projects to be discussed

On Monday, June 5, the Traffic & Mobility Commission will meet to discuss several traffic safety projects and initiatives related to improving how people get around Carlsbad in whatever way they want to do that, whether that’s by driving, biking, walking or using public transportation.

The topics scheduled to be discussed include: 

  • Reviewing roadway options along south Carlsbad Boulevard, between Manzano Drive and Island Way as part of a grant-funded study for moving and protecting infrastructure from sea level rise and its hazards 
  • Approving traffic calming plans for five residential streets:
    • Victoria Avenue, from Pontiac Drive to Haverhill Street
    • Highland Drive, from Carlsbad Village Drive to Buena Vista Way
    • Nueva Castilla Way, from La Costa Avenue to Levante Street
    • Circulo Sequioa, from Camino Junipero to Avenida Diestro
    • Celinda Drive, from Carlsbad Village Drive to Chestnut Avenue 
  • Receiving input about options to improve safety and connectivity on Tyler Street, between Oak Avenue and Chestnut Avenue
  • Reviewing an updated project priority list for the Sustainable Mobility Plan, which includes improvements for reducing vehicle miles traveled in the city, mitigating the impacts of growth and development, and accommodating all the ways people get around the city
  • Reviewing plans to slurry and restripe roads based on Carlsbad’s annual pavement management program
  • Reviewing infrastructure projects related to transportation that are included in the proposed fiscal year 2023-24 Capital Improvement Program budget 
  • Reviewing the semiannual transportation report which highlights recent accomplishments and upcoming milestones related to traffic and mobility  
  • Adopting next fiscal year’s work plan for the Traffic & Mobility Commission 
  • Receiving a report from the Police Department about recent traffic safety data

Traffic & Mobility Commission

The Traffic & Mobility Commission meets on the first Monday of each month and is a good place to learn about projects in the works and provide input. 

The agendas and agenda packets are posted on the commission page. Sign up to get notified when future agendas are available. You can watch Monday’s meeting on our website or come in person. Comments can be emailed before the meeting to traffic@carlsbadca.gov
