The city's Capital Improvements Program maps out major projects and how they will be funded. Each year, the City Council approves this plan along with the city budget. See project map.
On Tuesday night, the City Council decided to hold off on pursuing a long-term redesign of Tamarack Avenue, recognizing the effectiveness of existing traffic calming measures and responsibility of conserving funds for unknown future construction costs.

Whenever we see significant rain here in Carlsbad, it’s usually followed by someone saying, “well, we need the water.” While we do always need more water, rain falling in Carlsbad doesn’t have as significant of an effect on our long-term water reliability as you might think.

If you’ve driven under I-5 at our neighboring cities to the south, you might have noticed some of the underpasses include artistic features, wide sidewalks and other elements that make them light and inviting.
The City of Carlsbad is seeking public input on areas around two schools, Jefferson Elementary School and Sage Creek High School, where enhancements could be made for walking and biking routes.

Driving around Carlsbad, you’ve likely come across crews repaving and restriping several of our major east-west roadways.
Starting Sept. 13, and continuing through next week, sections of Tamarack Avenue between El Camino Real and Highland Drive will be temporarily reduced to one-way traffic.

After Labor Day, the City of Carlsbad is starting construction along the southern part of Avenida Encinas. Work will begin at the Carlsbad Boulevard intersection and move north, ending at the Poinsettia coaster station.
After Labor Day, the City of Carlsbad will begin construction on pedestrian improvements along Carlsbad Boulevard at Cherry and Sycamore avenues. Following the completion of these two crosswalks, crews will move on to Maple, Oak, and Hemlock avenues.
The Police Department shared the latest data on traffic collisions in Carlsbad. We are still seeing good progress on reducing injury collisions overall, but the number one cause of those collisions remains unsafe speeds.

The city is kicking off the planning process for Carlsbad’s next park. Known as Robertson Ranch Park, the park will be located on 11.2 acres near the corner of El Camino Real and Cannon Road.
