Join the City of Carlsbad to celebrate the 54th anniversary of Earth Day with events and activities throughout April. Earth Month is an opportunity to reflect on our community’s commitment to responsible stewardship of the environment. Enjoy fun activities and a showcase of city programs to help you reduce your environmental impact and live more sustainably.

Earth Month Celebration

Celebrate Earth Month and learn how to do your part to reduce food waste. Enjoy family-friendly activities, workshops and live music at the City of Carlsbad’s annual Earth Month Celebration event.

  • Reduce food waste with smart food storage and food extending demonstrations
  • Participate in a clothing swap by bringing gently used items like t-shirts, jeans and jackets
  • Learn how to garden in small spaces, grow your own veggies and pickle them
  • Make sustainable beeswax wraps and produce bags
  • Join a kids’ bike rodeo
  • Pick up compost and mulch at a drive-thru event in the Carlsbad Senior Center parking lot

Carlsbad Senior Center parking lot, 799 Pine Ave.

Drive through the Carlsbad Senior Center parking lot during the Earth Month Celebration event to pick up compost and mulch provided by Republic Services. The compost and mulch are made from organic waste collected in Carlsbad!

Bags of compost and mulch will be available, or you can bring your own container. Republic Services staff will be available to help onsite.

Fixit Clinic and Repair Event

 Join the City of Carlsbad for a fixit clinic and repair event. Bring your broken, non-working items—electronics, appliances, computers, toys, bicycles, clothes and more—for assessment, disassembly and possible repair. We’ll provide workspace, specialty tools and guidance to help you take apart and troubleshoot your item. Even if we can’t fix it, you’ll learn more about how it was made and works.

At this Earth Month-themed Fixit Clinic, you can:

  • Get help fixing small appliances, electronics, bikes, clothing and more.
  • Craft do-it-yourself coasters and cake stands from construction and demolition materials.
  • Learn how to upcycle old wood pallets into a beautiful new planter.
  • Drop off old or broken electronics for proper recycling (e-waste collection provided by Republic Services).
  • Drop off household batteries and lightbulbs.

Registration is preferred; walk-ins are welcomed. Register online.

Electronic Waste Recycling Event

April 13, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Dove Library, back of main parking lot, 1775 Dove Lane 

Republic Services will host a free electronics waste collection event during the Fixit Clinic. Swing by to drop off old and broken electronics for proper recycling!

Creek to Bay Cleanup

Saturday, April 20, 9 a.m. to noon
Register for a location.

Help the City of Carlsbad and I Love a Clean San Diego remove 30,000 pounds of litter in a single day at the 22nd Annual Creek to Bay Cleanup. Register for a hosted location or stay close to your home and collect waste in your neighborhood. Registration opens on April 1.

Shred and Recycle It! Event

Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Carlsbad location provided upon registration

Shred and recycle sensitive documents in an environmentally responsible way for free. Residents should bring a maximum of five standard-sized boxes (10” x 12” x 15”) of paper for drop-off. 

Advanced registration and proof of residency are required. Register on the Republic Services Carlsbad website starting March 25.

Donate, Don’t Waste Collection Event

Saturday, April 27, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
La Costa Canyon High School, Parking Lot, 1 Maverick Way

Give your used items a second chance. Donate them! This event allows Carlsbad residents to donate items for reuse through Goodwill programs instead of sending them to the landfill. Items accepted at the event include small home appliances like toasters or blenders, housewares and home décor, small furniture items, sporting goods, electronics and gently used clothing, shoes, and accessories. 

No registration is required.
