The City of Carlsbad ranked first in the Center for Digital Government’s 2023 Digital Cities Survey. The awards recognize cities that improve residents’ lives through technology and leadership. This is the fourth year that Carlsbad placed in the top 10 cities with a population of 75,000-124,999.

The award highlights the city’s use of technology to enhance the lives of all who live, work and play in Carlsbad by setting the standard for providing top quality, efficient local government services.

The city’s Connected Carlsbad innovation roadmap helped the city secure the top honor. Several of the nearly 30 projects within the roadmap include:

• Implementing the Safer Streets Together Plan, including education, engineering and enforcement actions to enhance traffic safety, resulting in a measurable reduction in injury collisions.
• Expanding the city’s municipal fiber network.
• Leveraging technology to conduct the largest resident participation program in the city’s 70-year history to help create the City Council’s first strategic plan.
• Launching a real-time Fire Department operations intelligence system to reduce response times and support long-term planning.
• Creating an innovative budget approach to place technology investments on par with capital investments.
