Apply to fill vacancies on these city commissions

Post Date:12/14/2022

Several City of Carlsbad advisory boards, commissions and committees will have scheduled vacancies in 2023 when terms expire for some existing board members. If you want to make a difference in our community, this is a great way to get involved.

The panels are made up of Carlsbad residents who volunteer their time to study issues and policies and advise the City Council on matters that affect our community. The members are appointed by the City Council.

Some of advisory panels require applicants to meet specific qualifications, and all require applicants to be Carlsbad residents who are registered to vote in the city.

The application process is easy; just fill out and submit the application on the city’s website. You can apply for more than one board, commission or committee, but you cannot serve on multiple and will only be appointed to one.

In addition to scheduled vacancies, unscheduled vacancies may come up throughout the year. Your application will stay active until Dec. 31 of the year it was submitted.

Scheduled vacancies

  • Community Development Block Grant Advisory Committee. Makes recommendations to the City Council on how to allocate grants for programs that provide housing and/or expand economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income people. Four seats open in May 2023.
  • Community-Police Engagement Commission. Helps strengthen and maintain open communication between police and the community and advises the City Council on police policies and programs. Five seats open in 2023.
