Plastic bottles and balloons are some of the most common types of litter found during community clean-ups. Additionally, they harm wildlife and the environment. Here are a few facts: 

• The long life of plastic. A single-use water or soda bottle provides a few hours of use for the consumer; however, it can live in a landfill or our ocean for 450 years. 
• Plastic waste will outweigh fish in the ocean by 2050. Every year, another 8-9 million metric tons of plastic ends up in the ocean – that’s the equivalent of a garbage truck emptying plastic into the ocean every single minute.  

You can help the city and event vendors transition away from providing or selling any single-use plastic bottles by carrying your own reusable bottle.
