City headlines

City Council meets in person 7/13, 6 p.m.

Starting July 13, the City Council will hold its meetings in person in the council chamber at City Hall, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive. Monthly workshops will be held virtually through Sept. 30.

What to expect

  • Masks and social distancing will be optional for people who are fully vaccinated and required for those who are not.
  • Courtyard seating will be available for those who prefer to be outdoors.

How to provide comments

  • The public comment process will be the same as it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • If you would like to address the City Council, simply fill out a request to speak form, indicate which part of the agenda you want to comment on, and turn the form in to the City Clerk prior to the agenda item beginning.
  • You may also send your comments to clerk@carlsbadca.gov prior to the meeting. Those received before 4 p.m. will be provide to the City Council before the meeting starts.
  • Comments sent via email will not be read out loud during the meeting.

What topics will be covered?

  • An update on the city’s investments
  • The city’s insurance coverage for worker’s compensation, excess liability and property claims 
  • A $36,575 pledge of support from the Carlsbad Friends of the Library 
  • A contract for maintaining trees in city parks  
  • The construction contract for the new off-leash dog park, a new restroom and new parking at Poinsettia Community Park 
  • Approving the plans for replacing part of a sewage pumping station
  • The Carlsbad Municipal Water District’s mutual aid agreement with other local water agencies 
  • Annual hearings on the assessments for the city’s two lighting and landscaping districts 
  • Consideration of imposing a 2% fee for using a credit card to pay various taxes and fees on businesses
  • An appeal of the city Planning Commission’s approval of a four-unit condominium project on Hemlock Avenue
  • Strategies to preserve open space and create a park in the southwest part of Carlsbad
  • Appointing two members to the Library Board of Trustees
