Every year we invite all 4th grade classes from public schools within the geographic boundaries of Carlsbad, to Leo Carrillo Ranch for the free California History & Art Program to learn about California history and the Rancho time period while visiting the working ranch of actor Leo Carrillo. Teachers, parents and students of any age are welcome to explore the links below for activities and information.

Book a 2024 California History and Art Program field trip experience at the Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park. Online registration will open Sept. 19 at 8 a.m. Please contact program staff for more information 442-339-5042.

  • Check out our Education Guide which has activities and background information pertaining to Leo Carrillo and the Ranch.
  • Library & Cultural Arts has created a fabulous art lesson, Landscape Watercolor Wall Hanging, which will allow students to create their own work of art inspired by the landscape scenes of the Ranch.

How Windmills Pump Water – Leo Carrillo Ranch has 2 windmills. In their day, they pumped water for the families that lived here, provided water for livestock, and even filled Leo’s swimming pool!

The Cisco Kid – Watch an episode of the TV show that Leo Carrillo is most famous for. This show was made for kids, but beloved by many for the good guy bandits who solved crimes and fought for right each week.
