7 ways to stay safe and secure this Fourth of July

Post Date:07/01/2022 11:58 AM

The Fourth of July holiday is always a busy time in Carlsbad, and we want it to be a safe one, too. The Carlsbad Police Department will be out keeping an eye on things over the long holiday weekend and is sharing these important reminders to help keep our community safe:

  1. Fireworks – Don’t discharge fireworks. It’s illegal and a big fire hazard. Leave fireworks to the professionals.
  2. Beaches – No alcohol or dogs on beaches; fires are only allowed in sanctioned fire pits.
  3. Alcohol – Designate a driver or use rideshare services. Providing alcohol to minors at parties is against the city's Social Host Ordinance. Please report drunk drivers to 911.
  4. Personal belongings – If you cannot take personal belongings with you and keep an eye on them, leave them at home.
  5. Home security – Before you leave home, close, and lock your windows and doors.
  6. Bicycles – Follow the rules of the road or risk getting a ticket. Lock up your bicycle and keep an eye on it. Put your bike securely away when you arrive home.
  7. Partnerships – Report suspicious activity by calling our 24-Hour Non-Emergency Hotline at 760-931-2197.

If you’ll be out and about, expect big crowds – especially at our beaches. Bring your sunscreen and your patience. Thank you for partnering with us this weekend and for helping us keep Carlsbad safe and secure.
