Barricaded Carjacking Suspect

Post Date:04/20/2023 4:46 PM
On April 20th, at 11:56 a.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department was notified about a female adult suspect who had fled the area in a rideshare after committing felony vandalism against a vehicle at the 6000 block of Paseo Del Norte.

Officers located the rideshare vehicle with the suspect inside and initiated a stop on the vehicle. When officers approached the vehicle, the suspect produced and brandished a large knife and made life-threatening statements. The rideshare driver was safely rescued from the vehicle. After a short pursuit, the vehicle was disabled on the northbound I-5 freeway. The suspect refused to exit or comply with officers’ directions.

Based on this information, the Carlsbad Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team and Crisis Negotiations Team responded and established communication with her. After approximately ninety minutes of negotiations and de-escalation techniques, she peacefully surrendered. The female was taken into custody and booked into Vista Detention Facility for an outstanding felony warrant from a prior incident, felony vandalism, brandishing a knife, assault with a deadly weapon, carjacking, resisting arrest, and felony evading. A knife was recovered at the scene.

Officers identified the female suspect as 39-year-old Darneisha Hill from San Diego, California.
