Assault with a deadly weapon investigation

On Sept. 3, 2023, at 12:21 p.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to the report of a stabbing that had occurred in the area of 5620 Paseo Del Norte.

Responding officers discovered that the incident was likely related to a road rage incident that originated on the I-5 freeway and ended up in a retail parking lot.  A 22-year-old male victim was contacted, and it was discovered that he was suffering from stab wounds to the upper body/ back area.  These injuries are not considered to be life threatening.  Carlsbad Fire Department personnel rendered medical aid and transported the victim to a local area hospital where he was admitted for care. The suspect, a 40-year-old male from San Diego, also suffered minor injuries sustained during the altercation and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.  The suspect will be booked into San Diego County Jail.

There is no known relationship between the two subjects and there are no outstanding suspects. The investigation is ongoing and there is no further information available at this time.
