Felony hit-and-run suspect arrested

On Dec. 12, 2023, at 3:30 p.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to the intersection of Chestnut Avenue and Highland Drive regarding a vehicle that had struck a pedestrian and fled the scene. Upon arrival, officers found a 15-year-old female pedestrian with serious injuries. The Carlsbad Fire Department transported the injured pedestrian to a local area hospital.

The investigation revealed that the pedestrian was crossing the street in an unmarked crosswalk at the intersection of Chestnut Avenue and Highland Drive. The suspect vehicle was driving southbound on Highland Drive and making a left turn to go eastbound on Chestnut Avenue. The vehicle collided with the pedestrian in the unmarked crosswalk. Following the collision, the driver exited his vehicle, moved the pedestrian off the roadway onto the sidewalk, and fled the scene before officers arrived.

Through investigative techniques, officers identified Joshua Weber, 42, from Winchester (CA), as the driver of the vehicle. On December 14, 2023, at 12:45 p.m., Joshua Weber was taken into custody in San Diego and is being booked into the San Diego County Jail for felony hit-and-run.
